First Watch, Rewatch - The Transformers: The Movie (1986)

By the mid 1980's The Transformers were a cultural powerhouse. The toys were flying off the shelves, kids were rushing home from school to watch the cartoon, and the promise of a feature length movie was on the horizon. Once the kids settled in to watch their hero Optimus Prime battle Megatron and his Decepticons hopes were high. What followed was nearly 90 minutes of brutal fights and the deaths of their favorite heroes. We were all traumatized.

In 1927 director Fritz Lang his sci-fi classic "Metropolis". In 1984 music producer Giorgio Morodor released a recut version of the movie with a contemporary 1980s music score and soundtrack. In 2010 the most complete version of "Metropolis" was put out to the world after a decades long restoration project. "Metropolis" has been a significant part of film history throughout the entire time films have been a thing.

A writer's strike later, an unknown cast, and a non-committed Australian government would be too tough a foe for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and friends, and the movie would be lost before a single shot was taken.
